'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he managed.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his family member alerted the police about his concerns.

She explained the man proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police again.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
